Dear H.323 friends and colleagues, I am happy to report that version 8 of the H.323-series was approved on 16 March 2022 (the ITU AAP page was just updated to show the approved status). This is a summary of the main changes (see specific recommendations for more details): - ITU-T H.323 v8 "Packet-based multimedia communications systems". This revised version incorporates enhancements to the usage of URLs and DNS (Annex O), tunnelling of signalling protocols (Annex M) and other clarifications. - ITU-T H.225.0 v8 "Call signalling protocols and media stream packetization for packet-based multimedia communication systems" This revised version includes enhancements for language capability exchange, a modification to the scope regarding use on the Internet and clarifications to the Facility message. - H.245 v17 "Control protocol for multimedia communication". This revised version includes support for WebRTC data channel and the use of DTLS for media streams. - H.235.10 "H.323 security: Support of DTLS for media streams". This Recommendation describes the security procedures for the establishment of media streams utilising Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS). H.248 work items to be discussed at next week's SG16

Dear H.248 experts, Q11/16 has a long list of H.248 work items that were carried over from the Q3/16 list of the previous study period. Since there was no progress or contributions on those for 2 years, I believe that it is time to remove them from the Q11/16 work programme. The work items are H.248.CLOUD, H.248.SHAPER, H.248.SIPREC, H.248.CodecSDPprofile, H Series Sup.Openflow, and H Series Sup.ALTC. Please let me know ASAP if you think that we should keep some of those work items in the programme! SG16 is meeting from 19-29 March 2019 and Q11/16 has 2 sessions on the afternoon of 26 March 2019. Happy New Year

Dear Experts, A new year is now here, as is a new ITU-T study period. I wish everyone a prosperous new year and best wishes as you begin work in the new study period. As most of you probably know, I will no longer be actively involved in ITU-T activities, including SG16 where I have worked for the past 18 years. It was a truly wonderful experience and an honor to have worked alongside so many talented researchers, scientists, and engineers to lead in the creation and development of packet-based multimedia communication systems. I'm very proud of the success we have collectively achieved. As those who know me well can attest, I am never complacent. I still believe there are many opportunities ahead for improvement and creation of revolutionary multimedia technology that can improve the everyday lives of people around the world. I look forward to some amazing results over these next four years from SG16. I will still be actively working in the multimedia communications field, just not in the ITU-T. Q21/16 Experts, I have posted all of the documents I have received so far. Unfortunately, I do not have AVD-4786 to AVD-4795. I would kindly request the authors to either email those to me or post them in the Incoming directory of the FTP site (as per the instructions on the meeting invitation). For a current list of all documents, please refer to: http://ftp3.itu.int/av-arch/avc-site/2013-2016/1609_Cha/1506_Cha.html I have also activated the link for requesting TD numbers. If that link is inaccessible, feel free to send me an email prior to the meeting to request a TD number. Since I will not be present at the meeting and since the Chinese government often blocks access to Google's services from inside China, it may be necessary to coordinate locally at the meeting to assign document numbers. Upcoming ITU-T SG16 Meeting (23 May - 3 June 2016)

WP1/16 Experts, As most of you probably know, every 4 years the ITU-T restructures work, removes certain work items, and introduces new study areas. These 4-year cycles are referred to as a "Study Period" and this upcoming SG16 meeting will be the final meeting for SG16 during this current Study Period. We currently have plans to publish a new revision of H.323, H.225.0, and H.245, along with a number of Telepresence-related standards, several more H.248-related packages, etc. Some of those, unfortunately, might not be able to go forward due to missing IETF references. Nonetheless, we are aiming to have the texts related to the newest H.323 version and Telepresence documents finalized at this meeting. To that end, if there are any additions, changes, corrections, etc. you would like to see to the documents planned for Consent or approval, I encourage you to submit a contribution to this meeting to make that happen. Due to timing considerations, I was asked to send the liaison to the mailing list to see if I could solicit comments in advance of the upcoming SG16 meeting. While SIP is not the focus of WP1/16, multimedia communication systems is, as is interoperability between various multimedia systems and architectures. Hello all, Yes this is sad news. As Andrea said he was a very nice gentle and person. He was also a character. From his needlework whilst in meetings to his forehead slapping at eureka moments it was good to have someone who added colour to the meetings. Preparation for the next study period

WP1/16 Experts, We have only 2 meetings left in this ITU-T study period. As we prepare for the next study period, we always work to prepare revised text of Questions. Some Questions are merged, some deleted, and new ones created. With respect to WP1, the Rapporteurs believe that we should merge Q1, Q2, and Q5. Q3 and Q21 would remain separate, though there are still questions about whether we should split some work in Q21 and move it to a Question in WP2. Unfortunately, I do not have a formal proposal from the Rapporteur, yet.
