Outcome of the Beijing meeting

Dear SG16 experts. Last week we had a successful meeting Questions F,G,2-5/16 in Beijing. The list of participants will be advised as soon as it has been received from the host. There were 20 delegates from organizations outside China and more than 20 local participants. Please note that TD-32c does not mention TD-50a (LS to JRG-NGN), but it was agreed to send this liaison at the closing session. NIST Releases draft for VoIP Security

Hi Everyone, I thought this would be an opportunity to say our 2 cents and comment on this. --NIST Releases Draft Guidelines for VoIP Security (6 May 2004) The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released draft guidelines for securing Voice Over IP technology. The suggestions include putting voice and data traffic on logically different networks and denying access to the voice gateway from the data network. Beijing Meeting Attendees, I have uploaded additional documents that were sent to me, including three new liaison statements. I made the liaison statements available as AVD documents. So, the highest numbered AVD document is not 2502. I will make any additional documents available as I receive them, though I will be traveling over the weekend. As such, some documents may not get posted until Sunday when I arrive in Beijing. I look forward to seeing everybody in Beijing! Paul

Documents for the SG16 Meeting

Beijing Meeting Attendees, I have uploaded all of the documents that I received by the document deadline today. They now appear on the AVC site here: http://ftp3.itu.ch/av-arch/avc-site/0405_Bei/ Mr Boyle attempted to upload AVD-2490, but that attempt failed-- the file size was zero octets. Unless there is disagreement, I will not mark the document late. It is really not an issue, as that particular document is an editor's draft and certainly something we would want to review in the meeting. There are a few documents missing and I've been informed by most that the documents are forthcoming, but they're just delayed. I hope to have the balance of the papers posted in less than 24 hours. Hi, The reasons stated below are not the actual reasons. The main reason is the fact that the standard doesn't state anything about conflicts that arise because of uni/bi-direction-ness of channels. Since H.324 can open video channels as bi-directional or uni-directional, such conflicts are quite common. In the Geneva meeting, it was suggested to add a new chapter into the standard about this and a new appendix with the illustrations. If that is the main motivation, I suggest that it would be better to point out the existing text of C.4.1.3 / C.5.1.3 of H.245 to the implementors so they can correct the bug, than to add redundant text, which may make it more difficult to read and understand H.245. This could have the unintended effect of making mistakes in understanding H.245 more likely (by adding complexity to the document), rather than less. Dear Q.F,G,2-5/16 experts, There have been expressed some concerns about SARS in Beijing. After having reviewed WHO's information and available news by obtaining TSB's help, I think that SARS is kept controlled. We will hold the Beijing meeting of Q.F,G,2-5/16 as scheduled. Q.B/16 will have its meeting there concurrently. I have had a difficulty to get the updated list of participants from the meeting host. Could you take a look at the table after my signature (as of 26 April) and return a short note to <sokubo(a)waseda.jp> if you are coming to Beijing or not? If you are not listed there but coming, please advise me. Please note that the attached list contains only those from organizations outside China.
