by OKUBO Sakae 27 Aug '07

27 Aug '07

*** posted on behalf of Mr Masahito Kawamori *** Dear Q13/16 experts This is to announce the provisional agenda of our upcoming meeting during the Joint Rapporteur Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, 11-14 September 2007. The terms of reference/objective for this meeting is contained in the report of the Working Party 2/16 meeting at: http://www.itu.int/md/T05-SG16-070626-TD-PLEN-0403/en Rev.2 The ultimate goal of this meeting is to come up with the work plan and roadmap of the activities of the Question 13. The following are more specific discussion items: * The general model of IPTV, from the standpoint of application, middleware and end-systems. * Review of the relevant documents, including those of FG IPTV. * Analysis of gaps that haven't been taken into account or not well-documented by the current standards. * the structure of the Recommendations to be created. We especially need a good discussion on the general model of IPTV. We will devote the morning 12th September to the general discussions, and will hopefully have some additional activities during the rest of Wednesday. I apologize for the relatively short notice, but considering that we are very close to the summer holidays, we would appreciate your response as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your participation, and looking forward to seeing you in Geneva, Best regards, Masahito Kawamori, Q.13/16 Rapporteur

[itu-sg16] Tough anti-spam measures
by Paul E. Jones 20 Aug '07

20 Aug '07

Folks, I've mentioned before how I am taking certain measures in order to deflect spam. In the past week alone, Packetizer's mail server deflected a total of 53,011 spam messages. That's really insane, don't you think? Spam is really a serious problem. It also amazes me to see how much spam originates from "zombie" machines that have been hijacked by spammers. I would venture to guess that more than 90% of the mail rejected by servers was sourced by "zombie" machines, most of which are in Asia and eastern Europe. (If somebody can explain why that is, I'd like to know.) Still, some spam did make it through and I doubt I will ever be able to stop all of it. The reason for sharing this information with the folks on this list is that, since I am employing fairly aggressive spam-blocking measures, you might find that messages sent to the lists operated by Packetizer gets blocked. Of course, I do not want to see any legitimate messages get blocked, so please alert me if your messages ever get blocked and I'll fix that immediately. The error message you might receive is one of several types, depending on what software component blocked your e-mail, but if there is a way to send the error message to me via a different account (e.g., a Yahoo, AOL, or MSN account), that would be appreciated. Having to fight with this onslaught of spam, it certainly brings to light the problems that would certainly surface from any open, uncontrolled VoIP network. I could not imagine dealing with 53,011 spam phone calls in a week ;-) Paul

Registration and VISA Information ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ To register your meeting attendance, please pre-register using the online form at: <http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/ngn/events/200709/registration.html> (this is the same registration form as for the NGN-GSI event). Additionally, please forward to Sakae Okubo <okubo(a)aoni.waseda.jp> a copy of the registration acknowledgement message that will be automatically sent to you after you pre-register. Early registration of your attendance is welcome and encouraged, but preferably before 1 September 2007 to facilitate the production of badges for all participants. People needing visa support letters (see below for requirements) should register as soon as possible. We would remind you that citizens of some countries are required to obtain a visa in order to enter and spend time in Switzerland. The visa must be requested and obtained from the office (embassy or consulate) representing Switzerland in your country or, if there is no such office in your country, from the one that is closest to the country of departure. If problems are encountered for ITU members, the ITU can, at the official request of the administration or company you represent, approach the competent Swiss authorities in order to facilitate delivery of the visa. Visa requests should be made by official letter from the administration or company you represent. This letter must specify your name and function, date of birth, passport number as well as the date of issue and expiry. The letter must be accompanied by a photocopy of your passport and a copy of the completed pre-registration form and must be sent to TSB, bearing the words "visa request", by fax (No.: +41 22 730 5853) or e-mail (tsbreg(a)itu.int) Please note that ITU needs at least one week to process all papers required for the delivery of a visa. 7. Hotel Room Reservation ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Participants should contact the hotels directly regarding room availability and for making room bookings. However, they *MUST* use the ITU hotel registration form available from the ITU web site in order to be eligible for the special ITU rates. Hotels offering preferential room rates for participants of ITU meetings, instructions and the form are found at: <http://www.itu.int/travel/>. Note: the closest business-class hotel to the ITU buildings is the Intercontinental, and a more popular strategy is to obtain hotel accommodations downtown, e.g., near the Cornavin train & bus station (which is more centrally located than the ITU or the Intercontinental), from which buses run frequently to the vicinity of the ITU. Not all hotels are equipped with high-speed Internet access, so participants may want to check with the hotel for the availability of this service. We are looking forward to meeting with you in Geneva. Sincerely yours, Paul JONES Brody KENRICK Masahito KAWAMORI Yoshinori GOTO Ming Jun SUN Noah LUO Sakae OKUBO (meeting organizer and document manager of this meeting) ----------

Best regards, Albrecht <<T05-SG16-C-0277r1 H.248 Compatibility.doc>> #### Hello Albrecht, Keith, Thanks for the reference to Q.1400. I think it was these fundamentals of compatibility for ISUP and DSS that lead to the original definition of the version negotiation and protocol enhancement rules in H.248.1. At the time of writing H.248.1v1 there was involvement from a number of people involved in the work of SG11. I think the general principles of Q.1400 are in-line with what is being used in H.248.1 so at this level it can be used. I agree some of the specific examples aren't relevant for H.248.1. I'll try to propose some clarifying text for the Q.3/16 meeting. I don't intend to write a thesis on the matter, I intend to stick making simple rules applicable for protocol, packages and profiles. At least you then know the capabilities have changed and the new optional features are available to be used. On the IPDC issues based on your response I've attached some proposed marked up changes to ES283 018 (13bTD108r3). For me at least the distinction is where the MGC knows the actual IPdomain its uses the IP realm identifier, where it doesn't its uses the terminationId and lets the MG decide. Other suggestions welcome. Regards, Christian CHATRAS Bruno RD-CORE-ISS wrote: > Yes I want to contrinue using implicit IP domain signalling. It would certarinly be more efficient to have several releases mapping to the same Profile version with additional optional capabilties added over the releases... > > To answer your question, I think that the MGC does not need to know the IP Domain nor the IP address pool. I guess I'm old fashioned, to me a version change is applied to a protocol whenever there is a change (as Wayne suggests). As I've posted before H.248.1 sect 11.3 outlines rules for up versioning the H.248 protocol. These rules have been/are applied to up-versioning of packages and I don't see why they are not applicable to > H.248 profile specifications. If you want to make changes that aren't compatible then you can use a new profile name. As Albrecht has suggested I will contribute to the next Q.3/16 meeting on this. I also agree with Wayne's email I don't see this change is a break of compatibility. > > I do think this backwards compatibility issue is distracting from the real issue however. > > It seems to me Bruno's real issue is that he wants to continue to use "implicit IP domain signalling" e.g. via the interface field in V2 without having to use H.248.41. Is this correct Bruno? If so then before I make a proposal along those lines I have a question about your comment: > > /2/ If the IP realm identifier is received by the BGF, it shall take > precedence over any IP realm that may be derived from (or associated > to) the interface identifier./ > > In the case of Ia v1 where do you see this association between the interfaceID and IP realm being set? I'm very interested in NID activities in your rapporteur group. (I'm the rapporteur of ASTAP NID Expert Group) In your rapporteur group meeting report (TD413 R1), your group had a plan to consent 4 new recommendation on NID by July 2007 and April 2008. But, in your report, your group did not assign any editor for those new recommendations. Can I know the current status about NID related new recommendations? And, in the meeting report of WP2/16, your group will have meeting before SG16 meeting in June 2007. Did you have a meeting? If you had a meeting, can I get a meeting report? I'll prepare some contribution on NID in SG16 meeting. See you in Geneva.
