Craig I missed this...Wow! Sorry I must of missed typed. Sorry openh323. H323plus uses much of the same code base and front end api ie H323EndPoint::OpenVideoChannel (which was the context of the comment) etc as openh323. Existing OpenH323 applications like YATE and GnuGk still work with h323plus. Opal interface has evolved differently over time. It is true h323plus plugin video api has its roots in Opal which were ported over a few years ago. For sometime after that the api's were identical which I helped maintain but things deviated over time. It happens. There was no malice or inference intended. Don't think for one minute I'm claiming anything over anything. In 2007 a decision was made that forced a split in the develop paths (and ultimate demise) of OpenH323. A group of developers went a different path and few chose another direction. We all come from the same origins. OpenH323... Sorry Craig if there was any claim or inference it was not intended. You kept OpenH323 alive for many years and both communities should be very thankful of the tremendous effort you put in sometimes in the most difficult of circumstances I'm certainly am sorry for my poor judgment in wording offended. I know this because I wrote the code in Opal to support a customer who paid for it. The H323Plus developers chose to make their video plugins similar to Opal, but not the same. I imagine this is because they chose their own development path from the original OpenH323 code base, rather deriving from the already extant Opal design. In any case, the video codec plugin work in H323Plus appeared after the corresponding Opal code had already been deployed, so any claim that Opal was derived from H323Plus even in this specific area are not supported by the evidence. unavailable H.264 plugin and missing H.263 CIF4/16 capabilities

Hello Simon, few days ago, you told us you confirm, that H.264 works (with h.239) for H323plus project. I was able to compile x264, ffmpeg and the plugin itself, however, when I put it into correct directory with all the dll files, none of the example applications can see it (but they see for example h261vic plugin located in the same directory as h264 plugin). I also tried to use trace (with application 'simple') and I see that capabilities are loaded, but not the H.264. MSVC says for debug version of myphonet, that the symbols from h264 dll were loaded and dll is in use (did not say what symbols). Hence I'd like to ask you - the file plugin-config.h which is located in two directory above H.264 project (as plugin-config.h.in) was changed to proper header file by ./configure command or you changed (created) it by hand ?(for windows) (my suspicion is, that symbols are not properly exported from the dll, but I don't know how to verify it) - are you aware of any reason why properly compiled h.264 dll and helper would not work with recent h323plus and ptlib ? I'm obviously missing something and I really would like to make it run (with h323plus for start and in the end with OPAL) To all, yes, you were right, the H.263 distortions and damage I saw are "problem" of OPAL, since h323plus myphone2 has no problem with it and I can see nice H.263 CIF picture. However, and this is true for opal and h323 plus, I'm unable to use higher resolutions e.g. CIF4, CIF16 and the custom one (capability for it is missing). So I'd like to ask : - is h323plus or OPAL capable of CIF4 and CIF16 with given codec(s) 263/264? (e.g. without necessity to drastically change the code), if so, could you, please, point me to any hint how to make it run (lines of code with comment, anything) - when we can expect OPAL will transform the h.263 and h.264 to it's plugin format ? Robert Older cheaper webcams really behavior quite poorly. For instance 1. They support formats which only can be transformed to RGB24 (and nothing else) in DirectShow filters so then with good webcams you have to filter out and only use the formats that are known to transform to RGB24. (When it all should just work with YUV so there is no need to convert in PTLIB) 2. a couple I have seen supply undersize (or corrupt) image buffer when starting up hence why the directshow output device automatically throws the first few frames away. 3. They fall over when trying to set a video frame size within the camera limits but not exactly as they support. So you are limited to exact sizes. ie like 4CIF. Some webcam may support sizes above 4CIF but not 4CIF exactly (quite common). Some webcams you can adjust the output pin to get the size others the video will just simply fail without any warning. This is why the PVideoInputDevice::GetDeviceCapabilities was introduced so with the plugin you could choose a video size/rate the webcam did support thereby avoiding having to scale/crop etc. Thankfully the latest generation of webcams perform much better like the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema which gives reliable 720p@30 or the new Logitech C910 which provides 1080p@30 (with USB3) with the current DirectShow driver in PTLIB. But still we need to support these older webcams without hardcoding or maintaining a bad list. Modifying Q.931 IEs in setup PDU

Hello all! While trying to add code in Yate to set some important parameters - for the telephony business - I noticed my changes are overwritten by OpenH323 / H323Plus. I reimplemented H323Connection::OnSendSignalSetup() and changed the Q.931 fields in setupPDU. Unfortunately the following code (in h323.cxx) undoes my changes: if (!OnSendSignalSetup(setupPDU)) return EndedByNoAccept; // Do this again (was done when PDU was constructed) in case // OnSendSignalSetup() changed something. setupPDU.SetQ931Fields(*this, TRUE); setupPDU.GetQ931().GetCalledPartyNumber(remotePartyNumber); Is there any solid reason why setupPDU.SetQ931Fields(*this, TRUE) is called? Its default parameters are overwriting the type, plan, presentation and screening of the numbers. I also need to set separate type of number on caller and called party numbers. My plan is to patch OpenH323 / H323Plus to delete the extra SetQ931Fields(). Do you see any unintended consequences of such a change? Regards, Paul Chitescu

Jan You are correct . To match to a bandwidth the encoder must know frame size and rate. The plugin support is very much h323plus specific. You can calculate the frame size/rate by using the internal table or can use a supplied list of supported frame sizes/rates. These can be manually coded from largest to smallest or retrieved from the video input device. DirectShow for instance supports retrieving the list of supported sizes and rates via calling PVideoInputDevice:: GetDeviceCapabilities(). These can be passed to the codec via calling PLUGINCODEC_CONTROL_SET_FORMAT_OPTIONS. In h323plus the function to do this is H323VideoCodec::SetSupportedFormats. The function returns the default frame size and rate for the given bitrate that is supported by the input device. Then you can set the input device with the returned frame size /rate in the MyH323Endpoint::OpenVideoChannel. See Applications/SimplePlus for example of how that is done. The bandwidth (and level\MBPS etc) values for the X264 Encoder is set by PLUGINCODEC_CONTROL_SET_CODEC_OPTIONS which is called after the local and remote capabilities have been merged in h323plus. Then there is flowControl which does basically the same thing. You pass to the plugin a bitrate value via PLUGINCODEC_CONTROL_FLOW_OPTIONS it then returns a supported frame size/rate (internal or supplied earlier) then you pass these value to the input device via calling PVideoInputDevice:: FlowControl(). The architecture of Opal has deviated a lot from its h323plus roots and I think there is a lot more things to consider to getting this to work with it. Hello Robert, 1) I went directly to plugins/video/H.263 ffmpeg/ directory (after I compiled ptlib and opal) 2) downloaded http://www.voxgratia.org/bin/libavcodec-0.4.7-windows.bin.zip as is written in readme file and unzipped it into plugins/video/H.263 ffmpeg/ffmpeg 3) I've opened the 'h263ffmpeg_2005.vcxproj' file and saved solution which VS2010 created for this project 4) Build it 5) No errors - result is ../../Debug/h263ffmpeg_pwplugin.dll (and the rest things such as .pdb file) Best regards, Vladimir P.S> this is resubmitted, because last time I just replied to Robert and did not used the other addresses as well. lost rtp packets and using jitter for video session

Hi, On connection speed greater than 384 kbps I have many lost rtp packets. If I switch off decoding of incoming video packets, than number of lost packets decreases. That is why I would like to try use jitter on video stream. I changed call of OpalMediaFormat() constructor inside OpalVideoFormat constructor in such way that needsjitter member become TRUE. But It is not working, not decoding any data. How can I use Jitter for my purpose and in general - can I do it? Igor Pavlov

Blocking of TCS and MSD messages

All, I am making an outgoing call from h323plus to an SJPhone endpoint using fast-start. All seems well, the h323plus sends the setup message with fs (specifying g711alaw) and the remote end responds with callProceeding / alerting / connect. The connect message contains a fast-start OLC itself and all is good. However, the h323plus stack then issues TCS and MSD messages. We are being asked if these can be stopped (my understanding is that Fast-Start allows for connectivity to be made with just the setup & connect messages)? Many thanks for your time. The FFMPEG (with w32threads) and X264 is built with mingw/msys. x264plugin_helper.exe is built with vs2008 and requires vs2008 runtime. OpenH323 version is 1.22.0 Compilation problems

Hello List, I'm not sure this is the correct list to post this message, but searching on Google was not of much help. NOTE: Please feel free to point me to the correct place to search (in the case that this is not the correct list for this) I'm trying to install OpenH323 1.22.0 on Slackware Linux 13.0, I installed (without problems) ptlib-2.8.3 In the moment I run the ./configure script inside h323plus-1.22.0/ directory, it ends with the following error: ----- checking for /usr/include/ptlib/version.h... no Cannot find ptlib - please install or set PTLIBDIR and try again ----- I tried setting PTLIBDIR and PWLIBDIR, but had no luck. Is good to note that the system can see ptlib-config: ----- root@testbox_a:~# ptlib-config --version --libdir 2.8.3 /usr/lib ----- Also, I tried doing: touch /usr/include/ptlib/version.h , and after that, the configure script seems to go through without problem. Questions: a. What I'm missing here? b. What would be the possible consequences of creating an empty version.h, using 'touch'? (Will with break something?) PS. Sorry if any of this questions sounds obvious to you, I could not find any README or INSTALL doc inside sources packages. -- Jose P. Hello everybody, I am new to this list and have just a simple question: We are using an Sierre Wireless Raven XT router to send data from a remote place to our servers And at the moment the connection is not fully established (we cannot connect with Loggernet Campbell Scientic Program). A port scan from the machine gives: PORT STATE SERVICE 1720/tcp open H.323/Q.931 Which is the only open port (no SSH, no HTML Port). Is there a possibility to get through this port to change the configuration of the router? Any help would be appreciated. Hello all, I'd like to ask you for help/hint about video codecs in h323plus (v1.22). Since I'm new I'm not sure I understand everything correctly. What I want to do : I don't have a camera, but I'd like to be able to send some video through the net (between/using 2 MyPhone applications as endpoints). Thanks to other tutorials I was able to rewrite the OpenAudioChannel, so I was able to transmit wav file. I hoped it will be equally "easy" for the video. Unfortunately, for MyPhone application, execution did not even entered the OpenVideoChannel method. So I looked at the capabilities of my end point and there are no video codecs. So, I'd like to ask you: Are the missing video codes my only problem ? (e.g. do I understand it correctly, that I only need to rewrite OpenVideoChannel in order to read from a file/stream ?) Are video codecs in h323plus represented as plugins only or there should be some internal ones which works ? Could ffmpeg plugin for h323 help me ? I tried to compile ffmpeg plugin and use it. Compilation went fine (I get the dll and 2 header files), so I tried to use it. Unfortunately due to lack of documentation (other than code itself) I was able to find only classes as OpalDynaCodecDLL from dynacodec.h which seemed to do the job (to allow me to add h.263 capability and add video codec). However there is dllcodec.h file missing in whole h323plus project (I was able to trace it down in openh323 which is obsolete afaik) and also some classes were missing (such as OpalDLLCodecInfo). I tried to download the OPAL project source codes, but I was not able to find dllcodec.h. any hint will be appreciated. Best regards, Vladimir

Facility transportedInformation vs empty

All, When running h323plus against various endpoints, h323plus always seems to use the Facility + empty h323-message-body method of sending messages (such as an H245 MSD) as opposed to the transportedInformation Facility method. (At least according to Wireshark.) I'm running h323plus reporting a protocol identifier of 0.0.8.2250.0.6 (Version 6). I've tested against endpoints running V4 (so I would potentially expect a drop down to the older style of working) and ones reporting themselves as V6. Question: Is there a way in h323plus to make use of the transportedInformation style of facility message indication? I've dug around the source code and can see the enum type declared but can't see anywhere that necessarily makes use of it (not to say the late night is causing brain fade). Transfer call

Hi, I am using H323Connection::TransferCall() and capture network packets with Wireshark, so when transfering the call in wireshark I see Malformed Packet ( CS : empty [Malformed Packet] ) The problem in these strings (in h450pdu.cxx in function H450ServiceAPDU::BuildCallTransferInitiate()) invoke.IncludeOptionalField(X880_Invoke::e_argument); invoke.m_argument.EncodeSubType(argument); If I comment these strings then I see just CS : Empty. And of course have no transfer of call. I have some questions : 1. Who is wrong ? h323plus or Wireshark 2. How do deternine if remote h323 client support transfering call ? Because I have Tandberg T-1000 wich is not reacting on my transfer call response, maybe because of malformed packet or because it does not support it at all Thank you, Igor Pavlov.

enabling DirectShow video input

I successfully built the debug configurations of ptlib 2.4.5 (static), h323plus 1.21.0 and simpleplus 1.21.0 in VS2008SP1 + WinSDK 7.1 on Win7/x64. Audio and text work fine. However, video does not work: "No Video Grabber available Disabling Video Support!". DirectShow support in vidinput_directx.cxx is compiled successfully and the DirectShow branches in simpleplus/main.cxx are active, since P_DIRECTSHOW is #define'd as 1 in ptbuildopts.h. I tried #define'ing P_DSHOW to 1 as well in simpleplus, without any difference. As far as I can tell, the problem is that the DirectShow service is never registered on startup. I expanded the PCREATE_VIDINPUT_PLUGIN(DirectShow) macro in vidinput_directx.cxx to put a breakpoint in PPlugin_PVideoInputDevice_DirectShow_Registration::<ctor>() and that code is compiled but never executed. Actually, it appears to never be mapped into memory at all, which should imply that the linker is removing it from the final EXE, but adding /OPT:NOREF in the build config of simpleplus does not make a difference. However FakeVideo is registered and it also uses the PCREATE_VIDINPUT_PLUGIN() macro, and I can not spot any difference between the way FakeVideo and DirectShow are compiled and linked. The only reference to a similar issue I could find is from over one year ago: http://lists.packetizer.com/pipermail/h323plus/2009-August/001165.html But the current code already uses PCREATE_VIDINPUT_PLUGIN() and, as I said, FakeVideo uses the same macro but is correctly registered. -- Alessandro

calling the OpenVideoChannel function

Hi all, I know there have been a few questions regarding this matter and i've looked throught the mailing list and didn't quite find the answer for it unless i missed it. I've downloaded and compiled ptlib 2.8.1 and the latest h323plus cvs and simpleh323, all seems to work fine except i've noticed that the every overriden functions from h323Endpoint are being called but the OpenVideoChannel/ OpenExtendedVideoChannel functions aren't getting called at all. I've checked and can confirm that H323_VIDEO is already defined, and i've tried tracing where the functions are being referenced, but didn't notice anything wrong. You help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Zhack

Bridging two H.323 calls together

All, I have successfully installed and used H.323plus and am very impressed by the strength-in-depth. I am building a B2BUA application and can make two outgoing calls and now need to switch the audio between them. I have done this initially using a new channel class derived from PIndirectChannel and taking audio data on the Write from one channel, buffering it internally in the application and then sending it to the other channel on its Read. I am wondering if there is a better or alternative method to achieve the same results - i.e. is it possible to use an H323plus object/method to connect the two H323Connections back-to-back without the need to go through the intermediate buffering stage in the application? Problem compiling h323plus 1.21.0

Hi, I just download ptlib 2.4.5, h323plus 1.21.0 and openmcu 2.2.5. When i try to compile h323plus using make install, it fail, because /bin/install try to find libh323_linux_x86_.so.1.21.0, but in the lib folders it find libh323_linux_x86_.so.1.21.beta0. Hello, I need trace calls for debugging. What are the options available for doing this? I know how to get PTRACE but I need something that is specific to a call. h323plus 1.22, ptlib 2.8.2, openmcu 2.2.5 - can't get H.263 to load

I am having a terrible time trying to get basic H.263/264 plugins working on a vanilla Ubuntu 10.04 install. I installed ffmpeg, libavcodec-devel, x264, libx264-devel from ubuntu repos Compiled PTlib 2.8.2, set PTLIBDIR, compilied h323plus 1.22, set OPEN323DIR, configured and make installed h323plus/plugins (showed all the codecs as enabled), set PTLIBPLUGINDIR to the OPENH323DIR/plugins. Compiled openmcu 2.2.5 without issues... When I run openmcu, right out of the box H.261 and H.264 are enabled, but if I try to connect an endpoint (using Ekiga) it segfaults openmcu. If I disable h.264 via openmcu.ini, restart openmcu, I can connect an endpoint at H.261 CIF (which is terrible resolution and pretty much useless to me. The problem is I cant seem to get H.263 to load at all. Can someone that has had good results setting this up please shed some light on how to do it on a more recent OS like Ubuntu 10.04 or even RHEL5? Thanks Dave

h.239 improvements

Hi, in the attachment, you can find the patch to improve H.239 support. It includes patch from Igor Pavlov, which add possibility to open H.239 session to the H.323 device. It also includes also some of my changes concerning the sending order of the messages ... So far I tested to open H.239 session both ways with the Tandberg MXP and with the Mirial. But with Mirial I manage to open only from Mirial to my application as the other way I'm getting "ERROR Open Channel. No Remote Support". I will check that. Thanks, Marek

Strange library names due to change in PTLIB macros, proposed patch.

I previously sent the message at the bottom to the list, proposing a change to sync the release/debug library names with those used in ptlib ( changing x_r/x_d to x/x_d, which presently are x_, x__d). I've decided to further investigate it and made a path. This let's me do a make both & make both install without problems. I've then used the patched release to compile gnugk 2.3.2-3 without problem. I've also compiled yate3, but this is anecdotic since it is patched. I'd propose the patch for inclusion, as I think these kind of details maters, and present names look ugly for me. Configure problem?

With a fresh CVS h323plus checkout configure emits ERROR: you must first run 'aclocal' in /home/folarte/tmp/h323plus/plugins It's trivial to solve, just '(cd plugins && aclocal)' solves it, but I wonder why I have this message. Strange library names due to change in PTLIB macros.

Memory leak in gkserver.cxx

We've been working with and old version of openh233 which had a memory leak in H323GatekeeperServer::OnAdmission ( it was tested, we had call counters and noticed a call was leaked whenever we rejected it ). We are now trying to switch to h323plus, and I've noticed the memory leak still is in place, so I've subscribed to report it. The method in question is H323GatekeeperServer::OnAdmission. I've checked the issue in the last CVS version and it still persists. Below is a copy of the method with the ( working in many millions calls across last months ) fix we are using in our code in the middle. Hi All, Currently, I am working on H.264 codec to limit it's maximum video rate always less than 256kbps. I use the settings as below: ---------------------------------------- Profile: baseline profile Level: 1.2 resolution: CIF resolution frame rate: 10fps. However, In the H.264 Recommendation, the level 1.2 has default value maximum bit rate with 384kbps. So, anyway to customize my H.264 codec (or do setting on my x264 encoder) to produce the video size always less than 256kbit / sec. Thanks.

Gnugk Proxy Mode don't complete call....

Hi, <<gnugk.ini>> <<tcpdump.tandberg.eth1>> <<tcpdump.tandberg.eth0>> I've got the latest CVS version to test GnuGK in Proxy mode. I'm not getting the video when a PVX from Intranet call to Tandberg at Internet. The Tandberg 990 MXP is registered at GnuGK in Intranet. The firewall ports are opened, and I can call from PVX to PVX, it works fine. The GnuGK (proxy) has two network interfaces, the eth0 is at Intranet, and the eth1 is a NAT to Internet IP. The eth1 has the same "A class" 10.x.x.x Tanderg ---- GnuGK ------ PVX The call follow this sequence: Admission request - both Admission confirmation - both Q931 setup send - both Q931 setup received - both The PVX call to Tandberg normally, and when I answer the Tandberg call, I get a black screen and after 5 seconds the call is cleared. At logs I can see: Normal call clearing and Normal Drop.... I really don't know what is happening, because I can't see the errors at log. I've attached the Wireshark logs and the Gnugk...
