Presence Implementation complete & updates
by Simon Horne 29 Jan '08

29 Jan '08

Guys Just to let you know the h323plus presence implementation (after feedback and a few iterations) is now finished and a sample application is available in the extensions/h460/h460.presence directory of the CVS. The GnuGk implementation will be available in the GnuGk CVS after the next release 2.2.7. The implementation is fully ASN.1 encoded and does not require a seperate presence service and should work with just an h323plus endpoint and GnuGk gatekeepers. All H.460 examples now support VS 2003,2005 & 2008. Look out for a couple more H.460 examples to be added in the coming weeks. :) GnuGk NAT traversal (as in PacPhone) is in the h323plus CVS and is enabled by default. There is no special settings, if you register from behind a NAT to GnuGk on a public IP you should be able to send and receive calls without any problems. :) Another cool feature is H.460.interop in extensions/h460 CVS directory which allows h323plus to seemlessly interwork with NetMeeting without need to change fast connect settings etc. The feature requests the remote devices name in the ARQ and if that device is netmeeting then it disables fast connect etc on that call. The feature does requires GnuGk v2.2.7 which should be released in the coming weeks. Things are beginning now to settle so we will do the stable release v1.20 shortly. If anyone has bugs etc then please do let me know. Simon

Problem in receiving 4CIF with H.263 codec
by Taranpreet Anand 28 Jan '08

28 Jan '08

Hi, What I've done is, I've added all capabilities first and then set the topmost priority for "H.263" (which I assume is dynamic and works for all sizes including 4CIF). In H323EndPoint derived class, AddAllCapabilities(0, P_MAX_INDEX, "*"); PStringArray preferenceorder; PString str3_4cif = "H.263"; preferenceorder.AppendString(str3_4cif); capabilities.Reorder(preferenceorder); This transmits the video to remote site successfully but is not able to show the received video. If CIF is selected at remote site, video is displayed on both sides successfully. But if 4CIF is selected, video is not shown on any side. Please Help. Thanks in advance. Taranpreet

H323_H224 Receiver channel problem
by mohammad alam 24 Jan '08

24 Jan '08

Hi Simon For h323_h224 OpenLogicalChannel(*capability,RTP_Session::DefaultH224SessionID,H323Channel::IsBidirectional); it calls capability.CreateChannel(connection, H323Channel::IsTransmitter, sessionID, NULL); through OpenWhileLocked() Which opens transmitter channel only When will reciever channel open? I am not able to open receiver channel Please reply Regards Alam

Hi Simon I have taken a latest h323plus lib through VCS today. here remoteCapabilities.FindCapability("H.224") fails as BOOL H323_H224Capability::OnReceivedPDU(const H245_DataApplicationCapability & pdu) returns false alam.

Dynamic Bandwidth Management!!
by Abhishek Rohilla 23 Jan '08

23 Jan '08

Hi By dynamic bandwidth management I mean that when a video call is in progress , the bandwidth keeps on increasing or decreasing, So does h323+ takes care of that and keeps the bitrate of encoder in control by some means.Supposeencoder is producing more no of bits for a frame than can be send on currnet available bandwidth. how does H323 deal with that?

H323_H224 Channel problem.
by mohammad alam 22 Jan '08

22 Jan '08

Hi Simon I am implementing FECC in my Application. The following code snippet of h323.cxx.opens H323_H224 channel only in one direction i.e in Transmit direction only. #ifdef H323_H224 if(h245_available && startH224) { if(remoteCapabilities.FindCapability("H.224") != NULL) { H323Capability * capability = localCapabilities.FindCapability("H.224 "); if(capability != NULL) { if(logicalChannels->Open(*capability, OpalMediaFormat::DefaultH224SessionID)) { H323Channel * channel = capability->CreateChannel(*this, H323Channel::IsTransmitter, OpalMediaFormat::DefaultH224SessionID, NULL); if(channel != NULL) { channel->SetNumber(logicalChannels->GetNextChannelNumber()); fastStartChannels.Append(channel); } } } } startH224 = FALSE; } #endif Receiver channel is not being open. How to open H323_H224 Receiver channel ? Pls help me.. Regards Alam

To all G722.2 (AMR-WB) implementation is available from VoiceAge (for windows) http://www.voiceage.com/openinit_amrwb.php If anyone has the time to do the audio plugin, the capability exchange is defined in H.245 Annex R This is on my to-do lists but contributions are most welcome Simon -----Original Message----- From: h323plus-bounces(a)lists.packetizer.com [mailto:h323plus-bounces@lists.packetizer.com]On Behalf Of Robert Jongbloed Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 7:23 AM To: h323plus(a)lists.packetizer.com Subject: Re: [h323plus] Dynamic Bandwidth Management!! The other possibility is that he is talking about "in call" bandwidth management, specifically the H.245 FlowControlCommand/FlowControlIndication messages which can be used to control the bandwidth of a specific codec. For audio it is not hugely useful unless you have something like GSM-AMR or G.722.2 (aka GSM-AMR wideband) which have a few bit rate options, but it can be really useful for video as most codecs have a wide range of bit rates. Both H323plus and OPAL have "bits and pieces" of support for this, but no one has ever really looked closely at it to give it a really good debug. At least no one out there that has admitted to it! L As another throw away comment: the rise in available bit rate will hopefully make wide band codecs such as Speex-wb and G.722.2 more popular. I 've used them in other environments and the quality is noticeably better, and as voice quality is one of the biggest complaints people have with VoIP, it can only help! From an H.323 perspective, this kind of thing is almost doable, but no remote device would be obliged to make adjustments. One could send a Request Mode message and the receiver could politely refuse. (Likewise, a SIP device could refuse an offer to propose changes to established media flows.) The other issue is knowing whether or not bandwidth needs to be adjusted or can be adjusted. One might say that bandwidth could increase, because there is no observed packet loss. But, perhaps an increase in bandwidth might then disrupt some other service (e.g., other voice calls in progress). So, then perhaps the bandwidth might be decreased to compensate. This then leads one in a vicious cycle of bandwidth adjustments up and down. And, as you rightfully point out, available bandwidth is constantly rising and it will continue, since people want to utilize services that require more bandwidth and want to use even more services simultaneously. The 80Kbps voice call is really very little compared to the Gbps of bandwidth most broadband customers have today. Still, there are bandwidth-constrained locations, but the best recommendation I could make is to simply select a lower bit-rate codec and use that. Skype, for example, always uses G.729 for calls to PSTN gateways and the sound quality seems very good to me. Hi i think he means the abillity to dynamically change the codec during transmission to follow any changes in available bandwith. I.e. when starting with g.711 and the available bandwith drops to 80kbits then i.e. g.729 could be negotiated on the fly. Actually a very nice feature but probably not very easy to implement and more important, getting less and lesser important since bandwiths are constently increasing almost all over the world....
