Current stable version issues
by J C Mercier 15 Nov '11

Hi all, I have downloaded the current stable version of H323plus and ptlib on the H323plus website, as well as the trunk versions of both and I seem to be having a few problems with them. Having compiled them on both windows xp and windows 7 using visual studio 2008, both versions compiled with no errors. My problems are as follows; 1. After first compiling the stable versions, I tried compiling the simpleh323 example which also compiles fine but when making a video call (using the h.623 codec), both side seemed to be sending a green background. I traced this issue in ptlib - directshow.cxx PVideoInputDevice_DirectShow::PlatformOpen() ... And commented out mt.subtype = MEDIASUBTYPE_RGB24 this fixes that issue but I was wondering why it was used. 2. My second problem, when ending a video call between two simpleh323 endpoint, the called party crashes dues to an invalid memory access violation while trying to access the thread object in; transports.cxx function: H323Transport::CleanUpOnTermination(). this is the case for both the current stable as well as the trunk versions of H323plus, tested with ptlib from version 2.9 up to the current trunk version. The issue seems to go away when tested with ptlib v2.8.2 through 2.8.5 inclusively. I've tried tracing to see why the thread becomes invalid, I can't exactly figure out the cause but it seems the thread object may be automatically deleted at some point. 3. My last problem is with the trunk version of H333plus. It complies with no errors, but when compiling the provided sample, I receive a bunch of unresolved errors due to h460.17/18 etc. I have not thoroughly looked into this but disabling H323_H460 seems to solve this for now. All these tests were performed on windows xp as well as windows 7 using visual studio 2008 pro. Your help with these issues will be greatly appreciated. JC

Hi, I have copied *h26x_pwplugin.so* and *h264_video_pwplugin_helper*files in my simph323 application directory and when I run the applications, after call establishment , the "listener" application is hanging up at the function *((PVideoInputDevice *)device)->GetDeviceCapabilities(deviceName,deviceDriver,&videoCaps)* and the "caller" application is giving the error: H323> ERROR: H.264 plugin couldn't find GPL process executable: h264_video_pwplugin_helper and therefore video channel is not being opened. You build the plugin codecs in the plugin directory. They are separate files. Look for *_ptplugin.so Apply this patch http://h323plus.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/h323plus/h323plus/samples/simple/ main.cxx?r1=1.4 <http://h323plus.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/h323plus/h323plus/samples/simple /main.cxx?r1=1.4&r2=1.5> &r2=1.5 Simon From: ABDUL MOIZ [mailto:abdulmoiz786@gmail.com] Sent: 03 November 2011 19:54 To: Simon Horne Subject: Re: [h323plus] Need help to run oh323tut application using ALSA Hi, I have found that v4l2 plugin is already built. And I have used the variable PTLIBPLUGINDIR to point it to the directory containing plugin. Martin H323plus is a continuation of OpenH323 using the same codebase and API. Opal has evolved their API over time. GnuGk continues to be developed based on H323plus and both Jan Willamowius and I work on both projects. We try to ensure backwards and SVN/CVS compatibility between PTLib/H323plus/GnuGk. The project is quite mature and continues to be developed and updated, For instance H323plus v1.23 has been tagged and is due for release this week. Windows Mobile 6.5 or lower support is in PTLib and should be independent of either stack and I know devices have been built off both. I used to work a lot with openh323 and opal some years ago mainly in IVR and Voice client applications. Today I´m a bit disconnected from the openh323 since I work mainly with a SIP stack. It would be great if someone can help me with some queries. I need to implement a h323 client for Windows Mobile devices and basically what I need to know is: 1) Which is the main difference between h323plus and Opal h323 portion (I know opal is multiprotocol sip/iax/h323). I think the h323 portion was forked in two different projects and I don´t know if they are both still mantained and the code is merged between each other. 2) In the past the openh323 stack worked quite good with the gnu gatekeeper. Is the h323 implementation compatible with the main pbx vendors implementation like Toshiba, Avaya, Cisco, etc. 3) Is there any support for Windows Mobile 6.5, I know that CE was supported in the past as a separated platform? Is this platform still supported? Than you in advance.
