video plugins and ffmpeg
by Ben Dudley 08 Dec '11

08 Dec '11

Hello all, I'm trying to compile OpenAM and use the plugins from the plugins dir of h323plus. I've downloaded the latest ptlib, h323plus core and applications from http://www.h323plus.org/source/. I started with a virgin install of Ubuntu 10.04 and installed dependent libs as necessary. Which version of ffmpeg works best with the plugins? apt-get retrieves ffmpeg 0.5.1. everything compiles fine and when I point PWLIBPLUGINDIR to OPENH323DIR/plugins openam lists all the codecs I expect to see - including H263. However, when I connect my video endpoint to it the video is freezes on what appears to be the first frame. I've tried later versions of ffmpeg from ffmpeg.org and libav from libav.org (recompiling h323plus, the plugins and openam after each ffmpeg change) but then openam doesn't list H263 in its list of codecs - only H261. The configure script indicates libavcodec and h263 is available for every combination I've tried. So, what's the secret to building openam with the H263 codecs? What version of ffmpeg must I use? Any help is greatly appreciated! PS: my apologies for first accidentally sending this to open323gk-users. Thanks! -Ben

H.323 video codec support
by J.C Mercier 05 Dec '11

05 Dec '11

Hi all, I just have a question to know if H.323 is capable of supporting additional codecs such as THEORA (based on VP3) or VP8? If so, is h323plus capable of supporting such implementations or does H.323 only restricts video codecs to the H.26x class? Your insight on how this can be accomplished or what the requirements are will be appreciated. Thanks Josh

Removing H.263/H.264 Capabilities in OpenMCU
by Victor Zanozin 30 Nov '11

Hi guys, I'm getting stuck with OpenMCU loading, and only starting the H.261 codecs. It seems it can detect H.263/H.264, but removes them shortly after detection, and then only shows one set of codecs in the video section of the startup. Text messaging in H323plus
by J.C Mercier 29 Nov '11

29 Nov '11

Hi all, first of all, thank you very much for all your kind help and suggestions. I am working with the simple application that comes with H323plus and I was wondering if H323plus supports sending text messages without being in a call. I know with previous versions of h323 this was not possible unless you did some sort of work around. Thanks Josh

Negotiate /Renegotiate video channel during call
by J.C Mercier 26 Nov '11

26 Nov '11

Hi all, Does anyone know if it's possible in H323plus renegotiate for video channel during a call? For instance, let's say I started an audio only call and the remote party is sending either audio only or both audio and video, is there a way for me start sending my video as the call is already in progress? And also, if i'm in a video call (sending my video) and i want to switch to audio only by stopping video (my video transmission) while the call is in progress, how would go about doing that? If this is not supported, what approach is supported in H323plus? Thanks in advance for your help. Josh C.

OpenMCU not using video codecs
by Victor Zanozin 25 Nov '11

25 Nov '11

Hi everyone, I'm having a lot of trouble setting up an OpenMCU server on either FreeBSD/Ubuntu (Ubuntu preferred). On FreeBSD, after all the packages are installed I am seemingly limited to H.261 - The endpoints are capable of H.263/264, however I cannot get OpenMCU to use this codec. On Ubuntu (my preferred system) OpenMCU preferences report the use of the G711 audio codecs, but do not even use the H.261 video codecs. There is no video output to any of the endpoints. I think it might have to do with the codec installation on Ubuntu - How can I check if these are installed properly? When I try to configure the h323plus install, I get the following: =================== Plugin configuration ====================== prefix : /usr/local exec_prefix : ${prefix} libdir : ${exec_prefix}/lib Audio Codec plugin install dir : ${libdir}/opal-1.23.0/codecs/audio Video Codec plugin install prefix: ${libdir}/opal-1.23.0/codecs/video LID plugin install prefix : ${libdir}/opal-1.23.0/lid FAX plugin install prefix : ${libdir}/opal-1.23.0/fax GSM : yes (internal) gsm-amr : yes iLBC : yes (internal) Speex : yes (internal, version 1.1.11.1) LPC10 : yes G.726 : yes IMA_ADPCM : yes SBC : no H.261 : yes H.263 : no (ffmpeg version) H.263/H.263+ : no H.264 : no THEORA : yes MPEG4 Part 2 : no CELT : no SpanDSP FAX : no CAPI : no Quicknet xJACK support : no Voicetronics VPB support : yes OS Type : linux-gnu Machine Type : i686 If all settings are OK, type make and make install ======================================================== Level 5 debug logs show: 0:00.034 OpenMCU MCU Codecs (in preference order): Table: G.711-ALaw-64k <1> G.711-uLaw-64k <2> UserInput/hookflash <3> UserInput/basicString <4> UserInput/dtmf <5> UserInput/RFC2833 <6> UserInput/Navigation <7> UserInput/Softkey <8> UserInput/PointDevice <9> UserInput/Modal <10> Set: 0: 0: G.711-ALaw-64k <1> G.711-uLaw-64k <2> 1: 2: UserInput/hookflash <3> UserInput/basicString <4> UserInput/dtmf <5> UserInput/RFC2833 <6> UserInput/Navigation <7> UserInput/Softkey <8> UserInput/PointDevice <9> UserInput/Modal <10> There seem to be no video codecs being found or loaded... Abdul Moiz Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been travelling. In your derived OpenAudioChannel PBoolean H323EndPoint::OpenAudioChannel(H323Connection & connection,PBoolean isEncoding, unsigned bufferSize, H323AudioCodec & codec); The second parameter isEncoding specifies the direction of the channel (true = transmit, false=receive). This function is called once for each direction. To only transmit or receive then return false for the function for the direction you do not wish to open.
