OpenMCU 4CIF Issues
by Adrien Rudulier 04 Jul '08

I am currently using the newest versions (as of July 2, 2008) of ptlib(2.3.0), h323plus(1.20.5) and openmcu(2.2.4) from cvs on Ubuntu 8.04. I installed the plugins correctly and openmcu runs fine. However when using two polycom pvx clients to connect to openmcu using H.263 at 4CIF for both transmitting and receiving, the video is blocky and very distorted. There is no packet loss, the bitrate is set to 1920 kbps and the frame rate is a constant 30 fps for both transmitting and receiving. I was wondering if the problem is with openmcu or the pvx clients. Has anyone successfully used 4CIF resolution to be clear and smooth? Also, I had to massage the h.263 plugin code to get 4CIF to work with openmcu. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you. Some H.323 endpoint use in-band signalings method such as NetMeeting, while other endpoint such as Polycom PVX use rfc2833 to transfer DTMF. But I don't know how get DTMF info from PVX's audio RTP packets. The code rfc2833.cxx in h323plus seems can not work with PVX. Hello bian the uso of tones, and other in-band signalings depends of the CODEC support, u must read the documentation about the codec u are using if suport in-band signaling. for example G.729 dont suport in-band tones and fax. tip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.711 (at botton of page are the others G7xx.x) ___________________________________________________________ 雅虎邮箱，您的终生邮箱！ http://cn.mail.yahoo.com/

hello, Anybody know how rfc2833(DTMF) is used in H.323 system? I have read source code of rfc2833.cxx in h323plus. But it seems that it can not interoperate with PVX. regards. bian ___________________________________________________________ 雅虎邮箱，您的终生邮箱！ http://cn.mail.yahoo.com/

Ptlib unix config permissions patch
by Nir Soffer 22 May '08

22 May '08

I found 2 related bugs in Ptlib unix. 1. PFile::SetPermission ignore group and other read permission in the permission parameter When you call SetPermission(path, 0600), the function apply instead 0644. The patch fix the issue by not adding group and other read permission if not set by the caller. 2. PXConfig::WriteToFile change config file owner, group and permissions The function try to perform atomic write by writing to a ".new" file, then renaming the ".new" file to the old file. The new file is created with the current user and group, using the default hardcoded permissions. The patch fix the permissions change by copying the permissions from the old file. The patch does not fix the user and group change.

Master/Slave and SessionIDs
by Niek Kooij 19 May '08

Hi, I am trying to get the h224/h281 data channel to work with Tandberg equipment and ran into some problems. It turns out this has to do with sessionId's. The current implementation lets the connection/endpoint create an h281handler which will handle both in- and outgoing h224 RTP. The problem is that my H323Endpoint will usually begin with opening the logical channel and assigns DefaultH224SessionID = 4 as sessionID. Later on the Tandberg endpoint wants to open a channel but then with sessionId 3! This results in the construction of a new RTP_Session which will never be used (cause the h281handler is allready constructed and has its RTP_Session set). Can anybody tell me what the "right" way would be to solve this problem? Should the incoming and outgoing h224 channels have the same sessionID? My current solution is to change DefaultH224SessionID to 3 but this will probably result into problems when more data channels need to be openend... Thanks, Niek
