Dear colleagues,
A Correspondence Group to discuss the definition of "Internet of Things" has been created.
To join the discussion and subscribe to the related email list, please login with your TIES user account at http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/services/, click on "subscription"/"ITU"/"ITU-T"/"Other Groups..." then check "iotdefinition".
See also the email below from Yoshinori Goto, Convener of the Correspondence Group on IoT Definition.
Best regards,

Dear IoT experts,
As we discussed at the 1st IoT-GSI event in May, Q25/13 continues the discussion of IoT definition by correspondence. I would like to invite IoT experts to join this discussion.
TSB has prepared the e-mail reflector (iotdefiniton@lists.itu.int) for this discussion. (To subscribe this e-mail reflector, please visit http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/services/ )
You are also encouraged to review the result of the meeting. The last IoT-GSI meeting produced some candidate definitions for IoT as appeared in TD27 and TD29 of IoT-GSI. (can be found at http://ifa.itu.int/t/2009/iot-gsi/docs/1105/TD/ )
The following definition (#3 of TD27) gains supports, but we are still debating on some fundamental points.
----------- A global ICT infrastructure enabling automated progression of actions (not necessarily explicitly intervened by human being) facilitating assembly of the knowledge, and contributing to enrich human life by interconnecting physical and virtual objects [including sensors, devices and machines] through the exploitation of data capture and communication capabilities supported by existing and evolving telecommunication developments. ------------
The issues we debated at the last meeting were;
- Conceptual definition or technically accurate definition?
- Short definition or long (and detailed) definition?
- Network (or infrastructure) or service (or application)?
Please do not hesitate to make your comments.
Best regards,
